Stress, Cravings & More

I use a combination of tried and tested tools such as EFT, NLP, mindfulness, meditation and stress management techniques, which may help you:
  • eliminate cravings and lose weight
  • stop smoking
  • reduce alcohol consumption
  • overcome fears and phobias
  • increase confidence and resilience
  • relieve stress and anxiety
Sessions tailored to meet the needs of the individual (whatever their age) and are available on a one-to-one basis.  Alternatively the cost of sessions such as stop smoking, weight loss or meditation can be reduced by booking with a friend!

I like to teach my clients how to use these therapies for themselves whenever possible, so for many people just one session with me is sufficient for them to understand how to achieve their goal.  Ongoing treatments are available for those clients who feel they may need the additional support until their goal is achieved.

Stop Stressing, Start Living

Everyone becomes stressed from time to time, it's perfectly normal for anyone who is under pressure to experience it in one form or another.  It can be caused by major life events such as illness, the death of a loved one, change in responsibilities or expectations at work, as well as job loss, promotion or change.  Smaller, daily events can build up to a point where we feel we are no longer able to cope.

The body automatically increases blood pressure, heart rate, breathing, metabolism and blood flow to your muscles during stressful times.  This response known as "fight or flight" is intended to help your body react quickly to any high-pressure threat or danger.  If the body continues to be stressed over prolonged periods of time, stress can take on a more physical form for example:
  • headaches
  • muscle tension and stiffness
  • chest pains, angina or heart attack
  • digestive problems
  • increased blood pressure
  • diabetes
  • reduced function of the immune system
  • cancer
My aim is to teach a selection of tools and techniques which can then be used to help you control stress and anxiety whenever you need it! You don't need to worry about which tools you need - I will do this for you, but here is more information about the therapies which may be included in your session:

 What is NLP?

NLP or Neuro Linguistic Programming has been pushed into the spotlight recently by Paul McKenna, with books such as "I Can Make You Slim" and "I Can Make You Rich"  This clip shows the co-developer of NLP, Richard Bandler explaining the concept:

What is EFT?

EFT - Emotional Freedom Techniques, originates from TFT (Thought Field Therapy.)  The therapist (or client) taps with fingers on a series of specific points on the body (see diagram)  These points are the energy meridians, which are the same points used in acupuncture.
EFT allows the individual to be relieved from emotional pain without having to re-live an experience or event.  EFT works on the understanding that the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system. The energy system can be re-balanced through tapping on the key points of each meridian.  You remain fully clothed and seated during an EFT session.  Whilst tapping, you focus on the thing you want to change - for example a craving for chocolate or a fear of snakes.

Results of EFT are often noticable within the first session, after which I provide you with information and coping mechanisms for continuing this treatment for yourself. One to three sessions is usually sufficient, although this is not always the case.

What are Mindfulness and Meditation?
If you have tried meditation before and have given up because you "can't do it" then there is probably a good reason why this is the case.

Firstly, the brain is designed to send you messages... constantly!  Meditation isn't about trying to shut these thoughts out, it is about focusing the mind on something else and once you realise you're concentrating on your thoughts again, just gently bring your attention back to your focal point.

Often people give up on meditation because they are unable to "clear" their mind and think about nothing.  Meditation becomes much easier once you realise you don't have to do this at all!

Secondly, if you tend to have a physical response to stress, for example headaches, then you may find that you need a physical form of stress relief, such as sport to relax you.  In the same way as one headache tablet doesn't cure everyone's headache, meditation is not for everyone!

What are Stress Management Techniques?

As a qualified Stress Mangement Coach, there are additional tools and techniques I use to build resilience, confidence, improve how people respond to challenge and much more.  I have access to state-of-the-art psychometric tools which can be used to identify whether an individual is becoming stressed before they even realise it themselves!  I also have a selection of brain training and attention control equipment available if required.
